The MOVE Activist Archive

Founded in 1972, the MOVE organization emerged as a collective of Black naturalist revolutionaries in West Philadelphia. Their mission was to advocate for environmental justice, animal rights, and a return to natural living. The MOVE bombing on May 13, 1985, marked a tragic chapter in their history, when the city of Philadelphia, aided by federal forces, dropped a military-grade bomb on their home, resulting in the deaths of eleven members and the destruction of a neighborhood. This event highlighted the extreme measures of state repression against Black radical movements and underscored the resilience and courage of MOVE members in the face of adversity.
